I slept in today after 8 am and it was lovely. I almost wanted to sleep longer, but then I remembered I had YThings to do, so I woke and started working on them. At this point, I’m essentially awake and up for the day. I just need to shower.

I had a pretty productive day yesterday once I got home. I spent the afternoon reading a short book I think I’ve talked about before here (yes, actually, fairly recently in the A to Z challenge), and I got Ideas from that. There’s actually a lot of stuff out there about failure, and how failure isn’t the opposite of success, but rather a stepping stone on the path to success, so I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how “failure” looks on YouTube.

Aside from the obvious “nobody watches your videos and you stop making content,” because that’s not a thing you can control.

Because most people set goals in terms of subscribers, or view counts, and you can’t control those. You can only control the content and frequency of what you upload.

So I have a script that I think I might try this morning before the sun comes out (if the sun comes out), as well as a channel trailer, which is apparently a thing people do. We’ll see how things go.

I also have some paperwork I need to collect and assemble and mail out, so I’ll spend some time on that this afternoon, after lunch, I think.

Aaaand…I think that might be it!

I’m excited to have a work holiday tomorrow. We haven’t got any plans right now, but I’m sure it’ll be a relaxed day. I should get the hamburger down today and make burgers tomorrow. I’m not confident I can make good ones. The last ones we had were from a We Ship You Meat company, and probably much better quality than I can whip up from the hamburger from the store, but I can try.

Happy Sunday!

I hope you have a great day!

And if you don’t have a great day, I hope you have a good day.

And if you don’t have a good day, I hope tomorrow is better.

Have I mentioned that I watched The Great on Hulu and loved it? It was lovely, funny, vulgar, bloody, pretty, and historically inaccurate (although kind of accurate, they were just very loose with their accuracy). Now, “Huzzah!” feels like an exclamation I need to make with frequency. So I shall.

I filmed today! I got two done, and I have discovered that I need to outline, not to write full-on scripty scripts, because I did not get to put to use all of my neatly laid scripted words. Bah, but it was a good learning experience. I didn’t film the third script because there are still things I need to verify in it so I know I’m saying true things. I think they’re true, but I need to verify, and that means opening books once I get back home. I can do it!

Honestly, it feels good to have a couple things to work on before the guilt hits that usually motivates me. We’ll see how the process goes this week, if I’m able to keep it up, or if I produce more, or less. Right now I wish I had another script ready, but maybe I’ll work on scripts while I wait for the rest of my laundry to do, and that’ll be productive.

The rest of the day is pretty usual. Laundry happens, and then I go home and unload the laundry, and then I hopefully clean things around the house so I can have a place to film that I’m not embarrassed about.

I’m watching a Twitch stream right now with someone talking about their day job, and how they don’t know how much they’re going to do that because doing YouTube full time would be fun. Is it weird that right now I’m thinking, this YouTube thing is really fun and I’d love for it to help fulfill some of my Start Today dreams, but I think I’d keep a day job. It feels like a weird thing for me to say, because I have been pretty firm in my attitude and desire to someday work for myself. But I can see having a job and doing this in my evenings and weekends, maybe. Maybe it’s just a mood, though, and that feeling will pass. 🙂

Not much else for now! I hope you’re having a great day!

And if you’re not having a great day, I hope you’re having a good day!

And if you’re not having a good day, I hope tomorrow is better.

Another good script

The thing about scripting YouTube videos is that I feel like I’m making progress on filming videos when I’m actually not filming at all. So I haven’t posted a video for a couple days, and I would like to film something at some point today, but I don’t know if that will happen.

I should shift my mindset.

I will make that happen this afternoon, even if the lighting isn’t great or the wall behind me is covered in concrete dust.

It’s Thursday. I made it through my Wednesday, which is good. It’s as busy as I expected, but not quite as bad as I expected, and that’s wonderful. I am not overwhelmed (yet). That could change, of course.

The black shirt I am wearing is especially good at displaying all the cat hair it collects from my brief encounters with my cats. I’m not sure how I feel about that.

I got out for a walk yesterday afternoon. It didn’t feel as good as usual, but it was the correct length and it helped me meet a goal an app on my phone has. And my phone lasted the entire time, even though I was listening to YouTube videos and so the screen had to stay on.

So my day job was declared essential on Tuesday, so my agents are able to go back to work (with limitations). I’m glad for them, but wish I could work from home for longer. I really like it here. I don’t have to go back immediately, as some offices are getting moved around and my space isn’t ready yet. And there are some things going on at home that may allow me some more flexibility.

It’s not that I don’t want to work. I do, and I can do almost all of my job from my living room. But I will end up making trips into the office to make copies and print things after hours, I imagine. Actually, come to think of it, it’s entirely possible that any time I spend in the office when no one else is there should be time I should be able to take away from the next work day.

Well, we’ll see.

Anyway, I’m not exactly dressed for war today, but I did remember to put in earrings and my new necklace, and it helps kind of make me feel a bit more pulled together. It doesn’t really affect my work, but whatever. Someday I’ll be able to wear jeans every day, and honestly, that would keep me happy a lot longer than is probably typical.

I hope you’re having a great Thursday!

And if you’re not having a great day, I hope you are having a good day.

And if you’re not having a good day, I hope tomorrow is better.

Writing Early

I (reluctantly) woke at 6 this morning for no particular reason except that I had to use the bathroom, my alarm had gone off, the kitties had the zoomies, and there was a solitaire game that had beaten me yesterday, and trying to win it today was successful in waking me up.

And so since I’m awake, I had a video I filmed yesterday that I edited last night and uploaded overnight (I really need to find a better way to upload my videos that doesn’t involve leaving my laptop plugged in and my battery settings on “never turn off”) that I needed to turn into a Patreon post for my two Patreons (hi, guys!). That one will be live for everyone tomorrow around 7:30 am, provided I wake up that early. Odds are fair on that.

The rest of the day is relatively up in the air. It’s Monday so I have my Day Job to do, but I don’t have many other plans. I did hope to film this morning, but it’s not looking good. I have a body in my recording space that isn’t mine, and I think recording outside, while it generally does a good job of keeping housemates from walking through the shot, is not so good for keeping neighbors and their children from getting accidentally recorded. (I delete all that, of course.)

That’s okay, though. I can use this time for more brainstorming, possibly scripting another video, definitely eating breakfast. Breakfast, actually, feels like it’s about two hours overdue at this point, since it’s moving towards 8 am. Bummer.

I watched a video this morning showing a pretty awesome thing you can do in Canva, one of my favorite marketing fallback programs since it’s online, drag-and-drop, and free. It was really a neat tip, but the video failed to mention that you have to have the paid version of Canva to make it work, and that was frustrating as hell. $120 a year is actually kind of reasonable if you are using Canva religiously, want to take advantage of the business features it has (adding more than three brand colors, adding brand fonts, and making things easier in that manner), but less so if you’re like me and already have access to programs like Photoshop.

Or, you know, if you’re in the middle of a pandemic and concerned at all about your job, have lost your job, or just are facing a wake-up call about the state of your finances.

I haven’t even worked through my journals yet, so breakfast and journals is now a top priority. Definitely.

I hope you’re going to have a great day!

And if you don’t have a great day, I hope you have an okay day.

And if you don’t have an okay day, I hope tomorrow gets better.
