…to meet you!
Hi! I know you stopped by looking for an A-Z post of a short story, or perhaps the craft of writing. Perhaps you even looked so far as to see that my theme is “Catching Up.” Well, while I did spending a couple of days “catching up”, so at least on that point I’m on theme, there may actually be no fiction or writing talk.
I love, love, love those surveys on Facebook where you get a strip of questions and share things about yourself. I love talking about myself, period. I love sharing things. I love oversharing things, occasionally. It’s probably why I’m enjoying the YouTube channel so much. I’m getting to talk about myself.
That makes me sound like a narcissist.
Another N word! Lovely!
Anyway, I was barely restraining myself from posting one of them. The only thing keeping me from doing it was my absolute loathing of “if you don’t do this you’re not my real friend” things, which while these questionnaires aren’t, they’re close neighbors, and…yeah.
So then a friend shared this thing:

And…yeah. So…yeah.
I mean, it’s not wrong. It’s exaggerating a little, but not a lot.
People who want to steal your information are really good at sussing that information out from things you post publicly online, and this is the kind of stuff that they’ll mine for that.
Which is hugely disappointing for me because, as previously mentioned, I love things like this!
A friend nominated me for a Liebster Award. I was so excited to write a post about it! Except…I’m sure you see where this is going…
Yep.
Of course, I do kind of realize I can participate without sharing deep, intimate, password and security question revealing answers. And maybe I’ll do that in a couple of weeks, or maybe later tonight, or maybe this weekend – but not right now.
Because that doesn’t fit the theme of this post.
Which is: be careful how much information you put out about yourself into the wild.
Oh, and make sure to choose “lies” as your security question answers. What was your first car? Aliens don’t wear hats! Where did your parents first meet? Stuffed rainbow kitten! What’s your mother’s maiden name? Dodge Lincoln Mercury!
And for goodness’ sake, make your passwords hard to guess, unique, and with all the required caps, numbers, and special characters, okay?
Okay.
Nice to meet you!
❤
So true. But, if you use fake things for your security questions, you can share all that info with no worries!
